ACTOR (Aalborg Commitments Tools and Resources)
is a 21 month project funded by the European Commission under the
Sixth Framework Programme, Priority 8.1: Policy-orientated Research
The Project aim is to develop a web-based Toolkit and Guidance to support
and assist current and potential Aalborg Commitments signatories across
Europe in developing, implementing, and monitoring policies for local sustainability.
Three regional local authority workshops took place in the summer of 2006,
and these involved local governments from across Europe in contributing
their expertise and experience. This ensures that the Toolkit will be relevant
and useful to local authorities in implementing policies to meet the Aalborg
Commitments. It will also be aimed at encouraging interested local authorities
to sign up to the Commitments and to undertake the process of implementation.
An Advisory Forum has been established, involving all of the European Sustainable
Cities and Towns Campaign partners. A meeting of this Forum took place
in June 2006, to discuss the development and promotion of the Toolkit and
associated Guidance on Implementing the Aalborg Commitments. A further
meeting will be held in May 2007.
